ITBHU.org: How Can I Help? Archive of Organizational

0 READ THIS FIRST: Conventions
ITBHU.org Editor @ 10:19 PM
These are conventions for creating an entry for a goal. We are using this site to align volunteers that are loosely-coupled and scatterd towards accomplishing the goals se tby the board of directors. Once alumni registration is operational, we would like to protect this site for alumni-only access.

  1. Each Individual Entry, such as this post, has a well-defined goal that identifies its completion clearly.
  2. An individual entry may first be authored by the editor that signifies it is yet unassigned. One of the core volunteers then takes its ownership and the editor changes the author to that person. It will then list under that account holder's name in the "By Owner" listing.
  3. The title of the entry is prepended with three special characters space priority space to assist in sorting by priority.
  4. The priority is a number 1 through 9. The lower the number, the higher its priority and the earlier it is expected to be completed.
  5. When the owner takes the entry to its completion, they lower the priority to 9 after adding comments.

9 [Done] Evolve ITBHU.org Charter
Aakash Sahai CSE88 @ 10:54 PM

DONE.

(Sept 13, 2003: Many of these ideas have been incorporated in to the articles of incorporation, the bylaws for the non-profit corporation and on-going resolutions of the board of directors. These will be posted publicly when the lawyers give a green light that the formalities of the non-profit are completed.)

Aakash has started off with excellent ideas. He will shortly post a summary of the roles the charter outlines for alumni in the US, in India and current students.

The charter will cover the multi-pronged strategy for IIT conversion.

If you want to be involved in the early stage of defining the charter, please volunteer by email (do cc editor@itbhu.org when emailing Aakash as he is extremely busy with work issues) to help make this happen.

9 [Done] Events Announcements
Aakash Sahai CSE88 @ 10:56 PM

DONE.

(Sept 13, 2003: The events blog is already in place and steadily taking announcements of alumni organized events. The blog also facilitates sending a trackback ping to the main site so links to latest events announcements are visible on the main site.)

Facilitate other chapters and alumni organizations to post their events as well as the upcoming events in the institute.

We have already been successful, through the comments feature, attracting two announcements -- one for the ITBHU-India chapter and another for the global BHU alumni meet.

We need an owner who can get in touch with the affiliates and alumni groupings out there what want to reach a wider audience. The owner will also explore if we can create a blog where anybody can post common interest announcements.

9 [Done] CA non-profit and legal
Aakash Sahai CSE88 @ 10:59 PM

DONE.

(Sept 13, 2003: We have identified an attorney that does pro-bono work for non-profits to do the initial incorporation. Our articles as a California Public Benefit Corporation as are in place. The incorporation legalities and tax related formalities are being completed. We could use SOME HELP on the tax side if anyone has a contact that can help us pro-bono.)

Engage an attorney who works, preferably pro-bono in the beginning, with non-profits.

We want to incorporate under California's non-profit charter. Anyone who has familiarity with this or want to volunteer to perform fiduciary duties, please email the owner.

In addition to the tax write-off the CA non-profit incorporation allows, we will work with the lawyer to facilitate big long-term donors with special needs.
