Guys:

I just stumbled on to this thread. This site is not very easy to communicate on! I am supposed to be one of the folks that is listed on the "Library Automation Project". I want to help, but I need Dr. Jain (incidentally he is the same class as me 1979) to get involved on this site or through some group of emails so that I can get up to speed on the status and start helping in whatever way I can

Shiv, it would be great to let Prof. Wahi and Dr. Jain know about this site. They can also become involved in this discussion. If we can involve the librarian also that would be good.

We are working on minimising the costs required in this project as well. We are working with Prof Wahi sir to see what is the volume of data conversion required and if the project can be made live with some minimal data entry. I'm also trying to get some barcode scanners to be donated to institute from my company. Off late I've come to know that Institute is setting up a team of three students from every department to do the data conversion. I'm not sure when it's going to be done.
We might be able to cut the funds on data conversion if students do the DC work.

Thanks Sumeet. We will ask the people involved to look into it.

As a request we would like all posting to follow the following format in the name
where XXX is three letter dept code and YY is the year of your graduation.

Anshuman, SS Maurya,

This is a good initiative. The best part is the details provided in terms of costing. A few suggestions:

1. If ITBHU students were to work on the software as well as data entry - would the cost remain the same as mentioned or would it be lower.

2. Secondly, alumni can help with the funding but I also feel that soliciting some help from industries and businesses in and around Varanasi as well as across the country would help. Alumni can help by working with their companies. I know for example that Wipro has helped with some projects in BITS Pilani.

Looking forward to helping on this initiative. I will discuss it with my batchmates.

Thanks,
Sumeet
