Library

A separate library for the EEE department has become imperative. We believe that a library will go a long way in the professional and academic developmetnt of the students in the department.
The vision of hte library is to provide the students with:
1. Subscriptions to magazines and journals not available in the IT Main Library or the Central Library.
2. Student licences for software resources and design kits for prototyping circuits and systems.
3. Access to a career counselling team comprising the alumni.

The scope and of the activities of the library can be expanded as and when there is a compelling need to do so.

As usual, we are always open to feedback and your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Regards
EEE Alumni Team

Hi Amanjyot,

The idea of having a seperate library sounds great but there are some issues involved with it. I had talked to Prof. Wahi about it. He said it's not easy. There are issues like space for library, maintenance & responsibility. The department will need to appoint one person who will be responsible for the library. It seems it requires creation of a post within the department! It may sound ridiculous but it's the way system works over there.

Thanx,

Hi,
We can think of an alternative solution like, we ask the librarian in the IT library about what we can do to create a better EEE section in the IT Library.

We as alumni can donate books / subscriptions etc. for this section.

Since we are planning to do the library automation project soon this will make the system better.

Hi Vivek:
Yes, I do realize that there are some unaddressed issues with respect to creating a separate library within the department. However, the issue can be decoupled from the department and made a purview of the EE Society.

I suggest a proposal:
The library can be maintained in one of the hostels. I know that there are atleast 3 rooms available in the Rajputana Hostel (maybe more in the other hostels too). The responsibility of a librarian can be shared by the students. As an initial incentive, they can be paid on an hourly basis (EE Society funds). This is how facilities are managed in a lot of American universities.

Coming to the issue of generating funds, the EE Society has to play a very active role in the development of a reliable infrastructure. This can be accomplished by organizing activities, conferences, contests, etc.

I do agree that it is not an easy task, but it is more than achieveable with 1. proper planning and 2. alumni support.

Regards
Aman
