Hi,

It is a good wish. You should be glad to know that the department has nearly eight OHPs in working conditions and each lab complex is provided with one and three UG class rooms have one each. They are being used extensively. Since 2001 the department has also accquired a Multimedia projector (LCD) and it is in heavy use.
What is needed the department should get some more of them and have a good networked computer system loaded with all analytical and desgn software so that one can practice and solve problems on line with ease.

A very good suggestion made by Prof. T. Srinivasan.

To network the various places where we have a small setup of computers we can think of connecting them using wireless networks. This is a relatively quick / easy / cost effective method. Doing it the wireless way would reduce maintenance hassel as the wires used for interconnection etc would be reduced.

What would we be required to do?

1. Create small lans using wireless stuff (say, in each lab)

2. Connect the main hubs/ access points in each of the labs / class rooms via cat5 cable.

People who could help?

a) People who have actually worked on / with wireless networking equipment.

b) Volunteers from amongst the current students who can do the job of setting up the network.

c) People who work with Cisco, Juniper and the likes who can get equipment at a reduced rates.

d) People to contribute towards building this network.
