Department of Electronics Engineering

Alumni Contribution to MDC

Dear Fellow Alumni,
As many of you know, the students of Electronics Engineering have persuaded the department to establish a Model Development Centre (MDC) in April 2003. MDC is a place for creative students who want to learn electronics engineering by hands-on experience. Students have 24 hour access to MDC, and they can work on the projects at their convenience. A committee of students has been formed under the supervision of Dr. P. K. Mukherjee, who is responsible for MDC. For safety of the equipments in MDC, the keys are assigned only to few students from 3rd and 4th year. MDC has recently organized a workshop on basic electronics for 1st and 2nd year students to develope their interest in the core electronics. More information about MDC can be found at: Model Development Centre (MDC)

Currently, MDC has some basic items such as: (CRO, Function generator, Variable power supply, bread boards, some basic ICs, Soldering apparatus, resistors, capacitors, transistors, diodes etc.) donated by the department, Dr. P. K. Mukherjee and some graduating students. However, they need a computer and some other items to improve the quality of projects that can be done in MDC, and they look to Alumni for financial and technical help. We are starting to collect donations from the alumni to develope and maintain quality infrastructure in MDC. As the first step of this initiative, we'll buy a computer for MDC. We already have a price quote from R K Computer Services and Dreamland at Hyderabad Gate provided by Vivek Misra and Vishal Mehta, 3rd tronics. The details are,

PRAYAS is a registered charitable trust in India. PRAYAS is established to collect donations from the IT-BHU alumni and develope better infrastructure in the Institute. Currently, Amit Mahajan from ECE-99 batch has volunteered to be the representative of the ECE chapter for PRAYAS. Please visit the following page for the account details: Alumni Funds Details

You can contact Shiv Shankar Maurya (ssmaurya [AT] yahoo.com) of ECE-98 for more details on PRAYAS. He is also one of the trustees of PRAYAS, and he will be authorized to write cheques/drafts from the PRAYAS account for ECE-chapter expenses. We will also post all the donations and expenses on the ECE-chapter website to maintain transparency. Buying computer and other items for MDC is just a beginning of what we can achieve together, we'll discuss other ways to improve the department. The point is, once we do something for the department, the department will take our efforts more seriously, and the faculty members will also join. Right now, Dr. P. K. Mukherjee is willing to cooperate with us but he is hesitating in handling financial matters. I earnestly appeal to all the ECE alumni, please come forward and donate. Also forward this message to your batchmates and ask them to contribute as well.

So far, there have been many discussions on helping the department and the current students. However, none of the plans could be implemented. At the moment, what IT-BHU lacks badly is alumni contribution (both financial and technical). We get top class students through JEE every year, we do great things during our B.Tech., and get very lucrative careers. Given the goverment aid to IT-BHU (as compared to IITs), IT-BHU has done a fantastic job in maintaining the quality of studies and research in the institute. But unlike IITians, we rarely give anything back to our alma mator. If we want to make IT-BHU the number one institute in India, we need to take care of it.

Whenever some alumni approach the department with some plans, the department does not take them seriously. Because in the past, those plans could not be implemented. It's the time to restore the trust and do something in real. Once we establish the trust between the alumni and the department, much more can be done that will benefit everybody. Other departments (CSE, EE, MEC) have already taken initiatives, and their progress is incredible. It's time for the ECE alumni to come forward and donate some of their time and money. Any donation ($10 to $1000) is better than nothing.
Looking forward to your support and cooperation.
Thanks and regards,
Nitin Mohan
