Hi! I did my B.Tech Electronics 1987. I worked for 12 years in the Information Technology Sector hopping from one corporate to another till an incident changed my life.

I was visiting a village 30 km from my residence in Gurgaon and what I saw changed my life 360 degrees. Lack of primary health, no education, no help on nutrition, health and hygiene, endemic poverty and lack of economic opportunities and that too just 50 kms from the CAPITAL of this country who we so proudly called INDIA. I told myself that if after my education and the opportunities I have got in my life I am not able to contribute to the cause of these disadvantaged them my life is not worth it.

Today I work in the villages of Haryana in the field of Literacy, Nutrition, Health and Hygiene after having formed a Non Government Organization called GURGAONHARYANA.COM Society. (Registered with the Govt. of India)

We have recently started a Literacy Campaign in Gurgaon District in an area called Mewat.

Mewat in Haryana – a land of the Meos, has its genesis in its tribal inhabitants, the Meo tribals, who are an agricultural people. The Meos, who trace their roots to the early Aryan invasion of Northern India, call themselves Kshatriyas and have preserved their social and cultural traits to a surprisingly large extent, unlike the other tribes of nearby areas. During the reign of the Tughlak dynasty in the 14th century A.D., these people embraced Islam but till today, they have maintained their age-old distinctive ethno-cultural identity.

Historically, the region has been extremely turbulent and has been subject to repeated invasions and resultant plundering throughout the post-Vedic period, largely due to the situational peculiarity of the area and the non-subjugative attitude of the people. The destruction and devastation over the centuries resulted in backwardness and gross under-development of both the area and its people. Some statistics are as follows

Population (2001 Census)
Total Population = 1078000
Males = 577934
Females = 500066
Rural Population = 1001869
Males = 537035
Females = 464834
Rural Population Percentage of total = 92.93
Literates = 271492 (25.18%)
Male = 228216 (39.48%)
Female = 43276 (8.65%)

The objectives of this campaign are to get all children between 6yrs to 14 years into the formal system of education.
Yes we know that Government School education is BAD as there is a paucity of teachers, lack of infrastructure and so on BUT does this give us an excuse for not trying for a change in the SYSTEM.

We have started with one of the smallest village in the area with a population of 620 people called SUBASERI. In a survey in the village we found over 80 children (out of a total of 100+ children, majority being GIRLS) between the ages of 4 yrs to 16 years NOT in any formal schooling system. This result surprised even the villagers who promptly allowed us to start a bridge school in the village.

Through this bridge school what we are trying to do is

1. Create an environment of education in the village.
2. Prepare children below 6 yrs to register for formal school at 6yrs.
3. Identify bright and poor students and give them scholarships
4. Push the standards of education in the Formal Government Schools.

Obviously these efforts need funds and between the various heads of coordinator, teacher, helper, teaching aids etc we need about 6500 USD per year. There are 3 villages in an area of 5 square km and we intend to take all of them to avail an area intensive advantage. The total cost works top about USD 19500.

I am sending this mail to you as I feel you would be able to relate to me and what I am writing about.

In case you want, you can HELP us by contributing anything between USD 10 to USD 2500 (Rs 500 to Rs 20000) one time or every month. This will ensure the project we have started to continue smoothly for a minimum of 1 year while we get results in and push for further villages in this area to be covered.

As the project travels its path we shall be updating all contributors on the progress, putting data and information on the net for all to see including contributors and will arrange visits to the villages whenever you are in this part of the world.

I hope I get a positive and early response to this APPEAL. For any clarifications I can be contacted on my residence number ( India 0124 2251227) or my email id gurgaonharyana@vsnl.net

Thank you again and I wish all success to you and your families.

Dear Friends,

I have just read and signed the online petition:

"Upgradation of IT-BHU to IIT"

hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition
service, at:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/ITBHU/

I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think you might
agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider
signing yourself.

Best wishes,

Hello All!
Refer http://us.rediff.com/money/2003/oct/01iit.htm
Since the Govt is considering setting up some institutes as IITs. I think this is a good oppurtunity for us to push our case forward-to make IT BHU into an IIT.
I think if we miss this chance..and some other unheard of college becomes IIT before us..It will be very sad.
We as alumnus need to take this up really fast.
Another piece of news is..and I'm not sure if this is true..IT BHU has now become autonomous as far as finances are concerned.
This is surely a step in the right direction.
Cheers!

i went through the list of asiaweek for best universities 2000 and I was surprised to see that even some second tier institute featured in the list of best tecnical schools of asia, but not my alma mater i.e. ITBHU. Surely all IITs are there. Then I found out that my institute is not featuring because BHU did not participate in that ranking. We are saying that we are trying to get IIT status. I feel these are the opprtunities which we should not miss as they help us in creating a strong case for IITization of ITBHU. I am sure we will feature among top 10 if we participate in these rankings. We should not miss such opprtunities simply because of reluctance of University. IIT Bombay proudly writes that they are the Third best University in Asia. We can also highlight that in our website and brochures provided we try to make such efforts. All of you can see the web pages of asiaweek through the links given below.

I offer my time and energy as a volunteer to help in this cause. I do have other priorities, but I think I can spare about a couple of hours a week to assist in whatever way I can. Since I live in India now (NOIDA, near New Delhi, to be precise), I can use local contacts when required. I would also suggest roping in some key individuals from the Alumni who live in India and can provide the local perspective to the Board.

All the best.
