Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) appoints IT BHU alumnus as VP of Technology Programs

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced, on 30th Sept. 2004, the appointment of Dr. Pushkar Apte as Vice President of Technology Programs.

Dr. Apte received his Masters and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University in Materials Science and Electrical Engineering, and his Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi, India.

"The protective film had formed due to the presence of high amounts of phosphorous in the iron - as much as one percent, against less than 0.05 percent in today's iron," said R Balasubramaniam, [an ITBHU MET84 alumnus] a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology.

The high phosphorous content was a result of the unique iron-making process practiced by ancient Indians, he said.
