Rajesh Jha MEC97 Writes...

To enrich the academic experience of ME undergraduates at IT-BHU, MECH '97 has initiated an effort to create a self-sustaining, informal process where all Mech alumni generously contribute ideas and funding. The intent is to provide ME undergrads with the facilities and encouragement that they truly deserve!

To work out how we can help our alma mater we invite current students and faculty at IT-BHU to join in and share ideas. To kick off this discussion and start contributing ideas, a few of us Mech 97 alumni brainstormed the following proposal. Please share thoughts at http://www.itbhu.org/chapters/dept/mec/ or E-mail theproject97@hotmail.com

Long-term goals of this project are:
* Improving laboratory and computing facilities
* Facilitating modernizing curriculum
* Increasing awareness of and enthusiasm for Mechanical Engineering

In the short-term, following project milestones are being considered:
* PC Lab: Setting up a PC lab equipped with state of the art hardware and software is proposed as the first milestone of this project.
* Fund BTPs: Second milestone is to fund creative B. Tech. projects each year to enable students to undertake more financially challenging projects. Students will compete for funds from a pool allocated each year. One way of selecting a small number of projects could be voting by students and faculty.
* Institute Awards: Third milestone will be to institute awards for outstanding students and faculty to encourage them
* Best Teacher Award: The best teacher will be selected by outgoing students and will carry a cash reward along with a plaque.
* Best BTP awards: Institute awards for the top three B. Tech. projects. These will carry a cash award to each winning group, but significant prestige.

Apart from these milestones, lets organize frequent visits and presentations by alumni to keep the department abreast of the latest developments in our respective fields, be they software, finance, business or core engineering.

A pledge drive to raise funds for the project is underway. So far, we have successfully raised Rs.1,40,000/- and hope for more. We propose to set up a small pc lab equipped with at least four PCs, UPS and a printer as the first milestone.

Other milestones will be taken up in the order listed based on availability of funds and the success of the first milestone. We would like to set up the funding of BTPs and best teacher and best BTP awards for a period of at least four years and then re-evaluate.

We encourage you to start similar fund raising efforts along the lines of efforts made for sports and cultural events.

We request the alumni to make a pledge by emailing at theproject97@hotmail.com. Pledges can be made in a currency of your choice. There is no lower limit on pledge amounts. Pledge information is posted on http://www.itbhu.org/chapters/dept/mec/. The website also supports a discussion board and will have updates of the project in future.

Below we present some suggestions on operational details.
* A focus group of four people can be formed to handle project implementation work as well as maintenance activities. We prefer representatives from students and one from professors. The group will be reconstituted each year.
* One of the students is identified as the key contact person for liasioning.
* This key contact person and the faculty member will together manage the accounts. It is recommended that a group account be created at the ICICI bank where money can be remitted.

We expect that the focus group be formed by summer vacation 2003 and envision the PC lab be operational by fall semester 2003. We hope you would find this very exciting and come forward to making it a success.

this is a very nice effort by our students.
IT BHU is doing a very tremendous job in this current scenario.

As per the information it is very astonishing why the highest authority of IT-BHU isnt interested in changing the syllabus as per the suggestions to improve the personality of the students. It is very important to realise that the name of the institute is not only because of the teaching staffs but also the quality of the students .The top most reason for the name of the institute is the performance of the students. It is an alarming situation because the companies are pointing out the lack of communication skills in the students and if this continues then the time is not far that the companies will stop prefering the students of IT-BHU.In todays competitive scenario the top most priority is the allround development and it is astonishing why isnt the authority taking the immediate steps. And after all students come to build up their career and the going on situation will hamper the students career and result in their career loss. Always strict steps are taken as per the requirement of security ,it is appreciable but when in case of academics no steps when it is benificial for the students .I want to ask on the behalf of a part of the IT-BHU family , why isnt the steps been taken as per the requirement of the personality development of each student after all this will add in the name and fame of the institute even. Why is the concerned person taking the priority for the students development? and when a person take the initiative to improve it ,he is discouraged why ? The students need the steps to be taken, so i request to take in consideration and immediately apply it in the syllabus.

Dear Professor Bansal:

One wonders why no ME faculty member (except you, of course) or student has responded to this proposal. Surely, the ME students and faculty have easy access to the internet and email within the department computer lab by now, or dont they? We drafted this proposal very carefully and it is not encouraging to see it go largely unnoticed by the target audience.

Do you think the proposal is workable?

Best regards.

Sir,
It's very god to see that so many alumni meet is happening in India and abroad ,so it's my that they kindly raise the issue of conferring the IIT Status to IT-BHU .The effors of the alumni from all quarters will definately put some legitimate pressure on Mr. Joshi who is taking things for granted.

hi friends i m arun(tronics 1st yr.).i m very sad to see the website of IT(www.itbhu.ac.in)not updated since it came in to existence.have u seen the site www.nitt.edu(rec trichy).is it not good that every ITn has an id like ec030509@itbhu.ac.in
i m surprised what the members of web group r doing.

Sir,
As an student of IT-BHU who is involved in the issue of conferring IIT status, its my observation and request to all the Alumni and the present students that they must come forward and start rigorously to e-mail letters to different prominent Newspapers so that this may become a media and public issue and a debate may be started. This will make Mr. Joshi to feel that it will not be bed of roses to snatch the most legitimate right of IT-BHU in favour of Allahabad. Remember the most crucial hurdle is Mr.Joshi
As a member of the 5 students Team who have successfully organized the Rally for conferring IIT status I have learnt that the media hype over this issue can be the real gain we can get, as this will make it difficult for fulfilling his ambitions. This we had gained just after the Rally when Mr. Akhilesh Singh Yadav (MP), Son of Chief Minister of UP supported our cause and asked that even could meet him over this issue.
So its my request that please you people start writing letters to the newspapers stating how the achievements of IT-BHU are superior over any NIT and how politics must be kept aside while deciding the future course of the country.

ARVIND SINGH
2ND Electrical,
IT-BHU.
